Your First Visit

Picture
Upon arrival for your first treatment, you will be required to complete some intake paperwork which assists your practitioner in obtaining a good understanding of your global health picture.
Because acupuncture is a holistic treatment that aims to discover the root of any ailment, a comprehensive intake and assessment (tongue and pulse diagnosis) is performed to assure the most appropriate, personalized treatment plan is generated. Including the acupuncture treatment, this may take up to 90 minutes in total.

What to Wear

Loose fitting, nonrestrictive clothing is best. Most acupuncture points can be accessed without removing clothing. Should clothing need to be removed or shifted, you will always be draped to ensure privacy and warmth.

Treatment

Acupuncture points are first cleaned and palpated by the practitioner before insertion of the needle. The needles are typically retained for 20-30 minutes, depending on the nature of the treatment.
People generally have a variety of reactions to treatment. These include, but are not limited to, emotional release, tingling, and a feeling of weightlessness or heavy limbs.

Potential Side Effects

While acupuncture is and incredibly safe method of treatment, as with any medicine there are side effects that you may experience. Generally these are very mild, and include things like local bruising, tenderness, or lightheadedness following treatment. It's worth noting, however, that in multiple clinical studies of acupuncture, the most commonly measured side effect was a deep sense of relaxation or euphoria for several hours following treatment.
